Vixens skipper’s hungry for more after Test debut

MELBOURNE Vixens captain Kate Moloney says she is even more determined to seize court time with the Diamonds after getting the taste in her Test debut against the Silver Ferns.

After sitting out the first two Tests of the Constellation Cup, Moloney made her first appearance for the Diamonds in Wed- nesday night’s third Test win in Adelaide.

The 24-year-old midcourter hit the court for the final quarter of the 55-43 win, relieving Kim Ravaillion at centre.

While she had to wait until three-quarter time for her callup, Moloney looked at home immediately as she stepped on to the court to renew her partnership with Vixens teammate and wing attack Liz Watson.

Now that she had her first Test cap under her belt, Moloney said it had only enhanced her hunger to make an impact with the Diamonds.

“It only makes you more motivated to get back out there again,’’ Moloney said.

Moloney was drafted into the 13-player touring team for the four-Test Constellation Cup series after being named in the Diamonds squad for the first time in June on the back of a career-best season with the Vix- ens. She will have another chance to impress in Saturday’s fourth and final Test against the Silver Ferns in Sydney.

The Diamonds took an unbeatable 3-0 series lead with their victory in the third Test, claiming the Constellation Cup for the sixth straight year.

Moloney said the Test had been a step up in intensity, but was thrilled to make her debut with Vixens teammates Watson and Jo Weston on court.

“It’s just another lift in the intensity and the physicality,’’ she said. While the series was theirs the Diamonds would not rest on their laurels.

“It’s about improving every Test and we want to get even better . . . ’’ she said. “Looking at (Wednesday night) there are plenty of areas we can improve on. I think the turnovers were pretty high so that is definitely something we will be looking at keeping down for game four.’’
