Lara crushed in clean sweep

- GRAHAM RAWLINS PREMIER BOWLS

THE well-oiled bowls machine from Ocean Grove took top place on the ladder following its clean sweep of all four rinks in a massive 59-shot win over Lara on Saturday.

The win highlighted the top combinations of skills and experience as the Grove showed no mercy. With its No. 3 and No. 4 rinks winning by four shots each it was the masterly work of its top two rinks that was exciting to watch.

On rink No. 1 the work of 14-year-old lead — Kira Bourke, Faye Richardson (second), Ken Thomas (third) and Matt Flapper (skip) took a massive 31-shot win over the Leigh Butcher rink. Bourke started playing bowls at the age of 10 at Maryborough and continues to pursue her dream of playing for Australia as a Jackaroo. On rink two it was the solid work of the Tony Joel skipped rink that took a 20shot win over the Leigh Hanlon rink.

Bareena notched another well-crafted win over Sebastopol by 19 shots. Number two leading skip John O’Donnell led his rink to a well-earned two-shot win while the Bran- don Anderson rink of Andrew Vukobratovic, Jackson Mahoney and Tom Hicks played well balanced bowls to take the rink by 11 shots.

Queenscliff confirmed its third position on the ladder with a 47-shot win over winless City of Geelong.

The clean sweep of all four rinks showed good teamwork within each Queenscliff rink. Barry Gladman (won by 19shots) and Luke Wayth (won by 12 shots) are the two leading skips in the competition.

BMS continued to enjoy its promotion to Premier Division with a resounding 28-shot win over Eastern Park. The one bright light for Eastern Park was the performance from its No. 2 rink where the Nathan Bush skipped rink took a 5shot win over the Philip Clamp rink. In the all-Ballarat match between Webbcona and Victoria it was a win to the home side by three shots.
