Quality tested by draw

- DAMIEN RACTLIFFE

PROGRESSIVE four- yearold Divine Quality will need luck in running to add black type to her record at start five, according to trainer Robbie Griffiths.

Griffiths saddles the daughter of Sepoy, as well as fiveyear-old mare Deja Blue, in today’s Listed Rosemont Stud Stakes (1200m).

The pair have drawn barriers 18 and 15 — and will come in four spots after scratchings — in a maximum field of 16 for fillies and mares.

Divine Quality boasts three wins from four starts, having resumed with a comfortable 4.25 length win in a fillies and mares benchmark 70 at Ballarat on October 12.

But she will carry the same weight as Group 3 winner Ghisoni under the set weights and penalties scale.

Under handicap conditions Divine Quality would carry 14kg less than Ghisoni.

“She’s been very good; she’s a bloody beautiful mare,” Griffiths said.

“It’s always a bit tricky for these mares coming to set weights. But she is a very promising mare and it wouldn’t be surprising if her or Anthony Freedman’s mare (Crystal Fountain) took the next step, because they’re lightly raced and have a good win rate.”

Meanwhile, Darren Weir runs Quilista, who ran third last start behind Snitty Kitty.

“It’s the perfect barrier draw (3 after scratchings). Obviously we’re chasing a bit of black type, so hopefully she runs good,” Weir said.

“We were lucky enough to win one with her, but she’s going well.”
