OTI doing a rain dance

CONNECTIONS of Kellstorm will be praying for a wet Geelong Cup to enhance the chances of their son of Galileo.

The five-year-old has been in work since May and will have his 10th run this preparation in today’s Group 3 feature.

The Darren Weir-trained galloper has logged four wins this campaign, all on soft or worse ground, and with fitness on his side, another wet track would make Kellstorm one of the horses to beat.

“He’s been in work a heck of a long time and he’s enjoying it, so we’re continuing to race him,” OTI Racing director Terry Henderson said.

“He’s loves it wet. The hard tracks we have are very foreign to him.”

Kellstorm last ran in the G3 Bart Cummings (2500m) behind stablemate Amelie’s Star and beat home Almandin and Harlem.

Michael Dee will take the ride today, with barrier 1 to give him a soft spot in running.

“The plan was always to run in the Bart Cummings and decide what we do from there,” Weir told the Geelong Advertiser.

“Obviously from how well he ran, I’m happy to have him in the Geelong Cup. Any rain would be a plus.

“He’s had a lot of racing, he’s a very fit horse.

“I’m happy with him, so he’ll run well.”

Henderson said the Listed Ballarat Cup on November 25 could be next on the agenda following today’s assignment.

“You’d think because they usually get a wet track up in Ballarat, we could look at Ballarat with him,” he said.

“But we’ll just take him race by race. There’s no plan.”
