New mum judged best

GEELONG raised it’s trackside fashion stakes for the biggest social event on the calendar, showcasing colour, class and creativity on the catwalk at the Geelong Cup.

More than 80 of the brightest and best dressed showed off their spring racing style at the Geelong Fashions on the Field event, vying for a slice of the $25,000 prize pool.

East Geelong mum Cass Pisarskis took out the Women’s Classic Racewear title while enjoying her first day out with friends after the birth of her son, Arthur.

The seven-month-old was at home with his grandparents while Ms Pisarskis hit the track with her mothers’ group, entering the competition for a bit of fun. Ms Pisarskis was wearing a custom blue patterned dress with frill detail by local dressmaker Janet Kaye, paired with Ana Bella Millinery.

“I was going with a bit of a Spanish flamenco-type thing, that was my inspiration,” she said.

“I found the fabric at Westfield and it went from there. I’d been thinking about it for a few months but it all came together in the last few weeks.”

Ms Pisarskis relocated to Geelong with her husband a few years ago but it was her first time attending the Cup.

“I’ve done a couple of fashions on the field events at Flemington but this is my first big win so I feel overwhelmed. I feel amazing,” she said.

Aspiring milliner Allie Guy, a product developer at Cotton On, was named gt Local Lady of the Day. “I’ve entered since I was old enough pretty much but I’ve never placed before so I’m pretty happy,” she said. “I really like Geelong Cup, it’s my favourite.”

The 21-year-old Highton resident paired her patterned ASOS dress — with pleated skirt detail — together with a handmade headpiece.

“It’s just a hobby at the moment but I would like to maybe become a milliner down the track,” she said.

“It was hard to chose which colour to pull out of the dress (for the headwear). I was tossing up between red and blue but I love red and it’s very on trend this season.”

Fashion on the Field enthusiast Peta Bell, of Wandana Heights, took out the Best Headwear category for her feathered Peacock Millinery piece. She was one half of Gee- long’s most stylish couple yesterday with her boyfriend, Danny Archer, named Local Lad of the Day and runner-up in the Men’s Classic Racewear.

“It think it’s about trying to match your outfit with the season,” he said.

“I went yellow for spring and its definitely about the accessories rather than the boring suit and tie look.”

A familiar face returned to the stage to claim the Men’s Classic Racewear title.

Personal trainer Craig Bone, a winner in 2010 and runnerup in 2011, was awarded the honour for his on-trend ensemble featuring a salmon jacket, skinny leg ankle length pants and a patterned bow tie.

“I live in Southbank but I was born and bred in Geelong, so it was nice to come back and win again,” he said.
