Win provides top therapy

- RYAN REYNOLDS

CLINTON McDonald was able to provide Good Therapy’s part owner Kim Loxton with some good therapy at Geelong yesterday.

Loxton, who was forced to sell Boom Time for financial reasons before he won last Saturday’s Caulfield Cup, watched Good Therapy’s Ferrari silks go to the front and hold on to claim the opener at Geelong yesterday.

Ridden by star hoop Mark Zahra, Good Therapy enjoyed rolling to the front, giving a kick at the end to hold off flying roughie Menegatti ($101).

“It was a great ride, all credit to Mark. He took his time getting across, he sat out wide and just timed it beautifully,” McDonald said after Good Therapy’s narrow win.

“He is a horse that when he does find the front and get his own way, he is hard to beat.

“It was great to get a win with him, (he has) great owners. Kim Loxton who is overseas and all the Geelong crew, they’ve been great supporters of the stable.”

Promising galloper Star Major for Shea Eden finished third, 1.45 lengths away.

Zahra rode Good Therapy like he was the best horse in the race, getting across from barrier 13 to control the tempo of the race.

“It was probably lucky we drew wide because they had too much speed for me early but I was able to take my time and amble across. I just kept him in a nice rhythm and he gave me a good kick,” Zahra said.

“I just kept picking up, picking up and the horse won it well.”

McDonald said the stable had targeted yesterday’s $25,000 B&B Aluminium Products BM64 Handicap with Good Therapy.

“Second up he always runs really well. He seems to take that run to come on. He looked a lot better in the yard today and we were pretty confident,” McDonald said.
