ROKEWOOD r esident Helena Kirby is set to become the next mayor of the Golden Plains Shire.
Cr Kirby, who was first elected to the council in 2008, was chosen as mayor-elect at a meeting on Tuesday night.
Her appointment to a oneyear term is expected to be formalised at a special meeting on November 8.
However, chief executive Rod Nicholls said Cr Kirby’s unopposed selection did not preclude a challenger coming forward in the next two weeks.
She would replace veteran Cr Des Phelan, who has served six terms as mayor over his 25year council career.
