Bootcamp gets runners in shape

- – JEMMA RYAN

DETERMINED female Run Geelong competitors aged between 12 and 69 have been working towards their event day goals at a free bootcamp.

For the second year, Cotton On Body has put on two free group training sessions a week for eight weeks in the lead-up to the popular fun run, which will return on November 19.

Run by 23-year-old personal trainer Greta Gercovich, of GretFit, the sessions are open to women of all fitness levels and focus on strengthening the legs, running skills, and getting to know the course.

“There are still another four sessions to go and it’s not too late to join,” Ms Gercovich said.

“We’re getting a mix of abilities coming along and people are really starting to get more confident and excited for the event. A lot of people, particularly first timers, find the atmosphere of the event pushes them through on the day but it doesn’t have to be a race.”

Run Geelong offers a variety of events including the Cotton On 12km Run, Cotton On Body 6km Run, Cotton On 6km Family Walk and the Cotton On Kids 1km Kids Dash.

The Run Girl Run Club meets for half- hour fitness sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm at the base of the Eastern Beach Stairs.

“If you haven’t done any training, start having a look at the course map, break up for course and do little bits here and there where you can manage,” Ms Gercovich said.

“Consistency is key so if you can try and manage a couple of sessions a week then you can build up to the full distance.”

This year Run Geelong is raising funds for Barwon Health’s paediatric rehabilitation services.
