CREATIVE FLAIR A WINNER

- JEMMA RYAN

AS SOMEONE who wears scrubs to work every day, Jasmin Fitzgerald jumped at the chance to dress up for the Geelong Cup.

Now her passion for a well put together race day look has earned her a $500 Westfield voucher as winner of the Geelong Advertiser’s 100 Best Dressed.

The 30-year-old Barwon Health employee said she was thrilled to win the People’s Choice award after making the dress with her mum using fabric she had in the cupboard.

“I had a dress similar and asked my mum if she could replicate the sleeves,” Ms Fitzgerald said.

“It took about four weeks to make.”

She paired the custom frock with a detailed headpiece by Allport Millinery and statement pink tassel shoes from Mimco.

“I get Sophie Allport to make all of my hats. She is amazing. I sent the fabric off and she made the hat from that,” she said.

“I saw the shoes on Mimco’s Instagram story about two months ago and knew I had to have them.”

It’s not the first time Ms Fitzgerald’s eye for race wear looks has been rewarded – she took out Local Lady of the Day at last year’s Westfield Fashions on the Field event at the Geelong Cup.

Ms Fitzgerald is planning on re-wearing the light and bright floral frock, and entering the trackside fashion competition at Oaks Day this Thursday.

“I do like to enter Fashions on the Field and I think it makes a difference when everything is matching. Wearing scrubs all day is a bit boring so any chance to dress up is a good one,” she said.

Having recently moved into a new house in Bannockburn, Ms Fitzgerald said her winner’s voucher would come in handy.

“I might need to buy some pots and pans ... but I’ll most likely buy something fashion orientated,” she said.
