Initiatives to ease pain

- TUESDAY NOVEMBER 7 2017 KIERAN ROONEY

DISGRUNTLED businesses will have their problems dealt with faster under a series of changes aimed at easing frustrations with the national broadband network.

NBN Co will today announce the initiatives as it works to improve its services and relationships with Australian businesses.

It was revealed last month complaints about the network have risen by as much as 160 per cent, with more than 27,000 reports received by the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman in the last financial year.

Under the changes, complex orders will be prioritised, more flexible pricing will be introduced and regional businesses will be able to buy fixed wireless and satellite enterprise products.

NBN Co chief customer officer for business John Simon said the company hoped the initiatives would ensure a smooth transition to the new network.

“We understand there is no silver bullet in improving the experience of people who connect to the network but we’re confident these new initiatives will boost the experience of businesses who sign-up,” Mr Simon said

Council of Small Business Organisations of Australia chief executive Peter Strong said many customers would welcome the changes.

“COSBOA has raised a number of concerns from our members with NBN Co regarding difficulties encountered by small business in securing reliable and affordable, high speed broadband services,” Mr Strong said.

“COSBOA will continue to work co-operatively with NBN Co to enable small businesses to leverage the full benefits of the national investment in the NBN access network.”
