Curlewis now home to charity golf day

-

THE E&S Golf Classic will have a new home when it tees off on Friday, November 17.

The fundraiser for the Give Where You Live Foundation will be hosted by Curlewis, ending a decade-long association with The Sands.

It’s the 26th annual Golf Classic, one of the largest charity golf days in the region, and is aiming to raise in excess of $100,000 to support the most vulnerable people in our community.

“We are going to a new venue and it’s moved from the traditional Monday — which it had been for 25 years — to a Friday,” the Golf Classic’s Ian Cover said.

“Over 25 years we have raised over $1.5 million.

Former Geelong star Tom Lonergan headlines a long list of celebrities set to play in the event. A number of Cats have played previously including coach Chris Scott, Tom Hawkins, Steve Johnson and Jimmy Bartel.

Golf course designer Michael Clayton will also tee off.

Local business has been a big supporter and many will also enter a team to compete.

“The E & S Golf Classic is an absolutely phenomenal day — especially in regards to raising both funds for the most vulnerable people in our region and awareness of the levels of disadvantage in our community. To have an event such as this to run for 26 years is an amazing reflection of the dedication of the organising committee and of course the businesses who compete year after year,” Give Where You Live Foundation boss Bill Mithen said.

Following 18 holes of competition, there will be an afternoon of entertainment and prizes at a luncheon hosted by Coodabeen Champion Cover.
