Fierce rivals to be measuring stick for season so far

-

SECOND seed Ocean Grove 1 will meet third-placed City of Geelong in tomorrow’s midweek pennant match of the round.

This match will give the teams an insight into how they are travelling in their quest for higher honours.

Geelong Region skipper and City stalwart Jacqueline McLaren says the team is looking forward to the challenge.

“We have been going OK and it gives us a chance to see how we measure up against the top teams,” McLaren said.

Recruit Lorraine Myers will be missing because of work.

John Hudgell will take her place and David Gunsser will come into the McLaren rink.

“Brian Parsons has been giving the rink a great start and Rod Day has been leading exceptionally well for the rink skipped by Kerrie Gooley,” McLaren said.

“Jenny McLean has been having a great season, combining well with skip Gerry Dean.”

Ocean Grove coach Matt Flapper, although aware of the capabilities of City, is confident.

“If we bring our A-game we can match it with any team,” Flapper said

“We all have roles to play and I’m happy with the way our team is going about getting the job done.

“Skippers Lorraine Kirk and Faye Richardson have been more than holding their own, getting great support from the likes of the Howarths, Gary Burkett and Pat Virtue.”

Other Round 7 games should see the Nicole Shortisled Leopold too strong at home for Lara, fourth-placed Torquay defeat Portarlington and Queenscliff stay unbeaten at Highton, while Ocean Grove 2 will to have to work but should gain the points at Cement.
