Mix masters in coffee comp

-

THE city’s cocktail kings and queens are set to shake and stir their way to the top during an upcoming, hotly anticipated espresso martini competition.

Little Malop St’s 18th Amendment Bar will host the awards as eight competitors vie for the title next week.

Owner Gorge Camorra said espresso martinis were now the country’s fastest selling cocktail, with his new venue being asked to make about 700 since opening only 12 weeks ago — despite the drink not being on their menu.

“I think it’s so popular because it gives people a bit of a hit of coffee to keep you going and we have a lot of coffee drinkers these days,” Mr Camorra said.

“Here we use cold drip coffee in ours but there are so many different ways to make them.

“We want to open this competition up to new, young bar attenders to challenge them a little to make something that stands out.”

Mr Camorra said the espresso martini was first created by Dick Bradsell in the late 1980s while working at the Brasserie Soho in London.

Ever since, it’s proved to be a menu highlight at most bars across the globe.

The November 14 judging panel is set to include The Block’s Clint Amos, My Kitchen Rules’s Jessica Tichonczuk and Nathan James Johnston from Coffee Cartel. THE FINALISTS ARE ... Lafayette Kako, from Peppers the Sands Sean Dedini, from Alma Luke Outerbridge, from Lord of the Isles Cal Macleod, from Recess Sam Zaid, from Neighbour Liam Edmunds, from 18th Amendment Bar Holly Jones, from Dan Murphy’s Geelong West Thomas Murray, from Frankie
