Redzel set to prove his worth once again
PETER Snowden cannot believe some pundits are still questioning his outstanding sprinter Redzel, saying The Everest winner can silence them by winning today’s $1 million Darley Classic.
While Redzel remains the favourite for the Group 1 dash, there have been significant pushes for champion sprinter Chautauqua and Vega Magic, who finished fourth and second behind him in The Everest last month.
“It’s no fluke what he did (in The Everest), he beat them fair and square,” Snowden said yesterday.
“He does all the work himself, he is a fast-running sprinter, but he is (still) underrated, even now people are questioning his form.
“Everything about him is win, win, win. I am not underestimating anyone in this race . . . (but) he has won his last five straight. He has had three starts this time in.”
Redzel hasn’t been beaten since March, when second in The Galaxy on a heavy track, and Snowden said he had been able to hold the five-year-old together well since a blistering performance to win the inaugural Everest.
“I feel there is another good run in him and looking at him, you wouldn’t know he has had the racing he has had,” he said.
“I thought I had him as good as I could possibly get him on Everest day and he ran accordingly. I think that month between runs (The Everest and the Darley) has been ideal for him.”
