TRAVEL Travel Man SBS VICELAND, 8pm
Some might compare Richard Ayoade’s reluctant travel escapades to that of Karl Pilkington in Idiot Abroad. While both series debunk the romanticism of holidays, TravelMan features Ayoade’s biting cynicism and he is miles more likable than his low-brow counterpart. Articulate and poetic, Ayoade is also one smart cookie, offering a wealth of information while managing to be hilarious. Tonight, Rome is on the itinerary and another high calibre guest is on board for the shenanigans, in Little Britain’s Matt Lucas. After picking up hats at Antica Maniffattura Capelli, one of Rome’s oldest hat shops, they take a tour in vintage Fiat 500 cars. Molto divertente!
DOCUMENTARY Louis Theroux: My Scientology Movie ABC2, 8.30pm
It was only a matter of time before British journalist and filmmaker Louis Theroux cast his attentions to Scientology. The infamous religion has its fair share of critics and strange customs, making it a prime target for Theroux, who revels in weirdness. While other docos zoom in on the dark and unsettling aspects of the cult-like organisation, Theroux highlights its disturbing aspects with an entertaining and humorous perspective. It begins with Theroux denied entry into the Church of Scientology’s headquarters, meaning he has to get creative with his plan to try to reveal the organisation’s inner workings. Fantastically revealing.
