Cars flip in separate crashes

- CHAD VAN ESTROP

A GROVEDALE man has avoided serious injury after flipping his car and hitting a bus stop at Armstrong Creek.

Geelong Highway patrol Sergeant Jason Van Doren said the man was travelling along the Surf Coast Highway near the intersection of Coastside Drive about 11pm Sunday when the car rolled.

“He hit a traffic signal, rolled and hit a bus stop about 30m away,” Sgt Van Doren said.

He said the 24-year-old’s licence would be suspended for six months after the man registered a blood alcohol reading of .067 at the Geelong police station following the crash.

The man was fined $476 and police will investigate if speed was a factor in the crash.

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said crews were not called to the scene.

Meanwhile, a car rollover in Hamlyn Heights closed all southbound lanes of the Geelong Ring Road for about two hours yesterday morning.

Geelong police Sergeant Anthony Henderson said the car collided with a truck about 6am, trapping the car’s driver for a short time.

“It was a car into a truck and the car has flipped,” Sgt Henderson said.

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said one man in his 30s was taken to the Geelong hospital in a stable condition following the crash.
