WHAT DO OUR RATES ACTUALLY PAY FOR?

-

WE have to pay rates for more than 120 services.

Rates are supposed to also contribute to the “essential” infrastructure such as roads, footpaths, parks, gardens, libraries and sport facilities but tell me how many of those things have you seen the council actually using the money for?

For example, I have ridden my bike all over Geelong and, I see footpaths with huge cracks in them.

Other times I have seen roads that have not been fixed in a long time such as Banks Rd on the Bellarine Peninsula.

I often see graders go up and down the road but that is pretty much the only thing that I have seen actually making the road safer and better.

Last week a mother was involved in a car crash and is fighting for her life. The crash was caused by a road that is not safe. So I think that the council should start doing their job properly. Jack Tyrrell, Newtown
