Two ar­rested af­ter crime spree

A HIGH num­ber of thefts fol­low on from the pre­vi­ous week­end when more than 50 in­ci­dents were re­ported.

Over one night this week, there were 22 in­ci­dents in Highton and a fur­ther four in Bel­mont.

An­other three oc­curred in Highton over the fol­low­ing days.

Eight re­ports in­volved at­tempted thefts only, and in many cases the thieves smashed a win­dow to en­ter the ve­hi­cle. In a sim­i­lar num­ber of cases, no vis­i­ble force was iden­ti­fied. Po­lice have ar­rested two of­fend­ers over the in­ci­dents.

Other mul­ti­ple thefts were recorded in Gee­long, Nor­lane/Corio, Bell Park, Lara, Co­lac and Whit­ting­ton.

Eleven in­ci­dents in­volved the theft of num­ber plates. place from Thurs­day to Satur­day.

Thieves tar­geted sheds or garages on five oc­ca­sions. A hol­i­day home and a farm build­ing were also hit.

Six crimes in­volved en­try via un­locked doors or win­dows. Items stolen in­cluded build­ing and power tools, jewellery, au­dio equip­ment and house­hold elec­tri­cal items.
