Last-ball thriller

- - RYAN REYNOLDS

NEWTOWN & Chilwell has escaped with a thrilling final ball victory over East Belmont in a rain-affected second round of the Geelong Advertiser Twenty20 Cup.

In pole position after restricting the Lions to 6-79 in a clash reduced to 15 overs a side, Two Blues import Feroze Khushi hit a cover drive four off the final delivery to secure his side a four-wicket win.

After a deluge delayed the start, Newtown & Chilwell spearhead Jackson Davis (3-9) ripped through East Belmont to give his side the upper hand.

Lion Mark Freijah provided resistance with his 41 off 24 keeping East Belmont in the game.

In reply Newtown and Chilwell looked comfortable cruising to 4-58, but some tight bowling gave the Lions hope of an improbable win.

But an unbeaten 24 off 26 from rising star Khushi and a cool head from Tim Hosking got the Two Blues over the line.
