Blue-chip bidding battle

- TESSA HAYWARD

THE demand for property in Highton has been underscored by the battle between two bidders with young families for a large home in a blue chip location.

There was strong competition for 11 Reigate Rd with 58 bids. Of those, about 50 of them were $1000 increments.

A Point Cook family eventually secured the property for $691,000 after bidding started at $600,000.

The buyers, Danny and Lara Low, said they had sold their property in Point Cook in July but had been looking in Geelong since the start of the year. This was the first property they had bid for.

“This one just felt right,” Mrs Low said.

“We were attracted to the charm of the house and the yard is fantastic ... we have two boys and another baby on the way.”

They said they chose Geelong because of the lifestyle it offered and the schools available.

The family house is on 847sq m of land and has four bedrooms, two living areas, a study and a deck off each level of the house.

The second storey of the house also has good views.

Hayeswinckle, Highton agent Peter Norman said that the property was in a prime position, being close to schools, shops and the ring road.

“These buyers are looking to travel back to Melbourne for work and it is convenient to get onto the ring road,” Mr Norman said.

“Properties with views and on large blocks are highly desirable.”

The property last sold for $387,600 10 years ago, according to CoreLogic.

Data also shows the median house price in Highton has increased 15.5 per cent in the past year to $606,500.
