HEAD OVER HEELS
Thomson’s premiership campaign is flying after ripping through Alexander Thomson in spectacular fashion on Saturday.
A BLISTERING half-century from Jack Cole propelled unbeaten Marshall into a good position against Bell Post Hill.
Cole, striding to the crease with his side in trouble at 4-59, plundered three sixes and five boundaries to spark a late-innings revival.
Cole (50), No.7 Mitch McCoach (47) and No.8 Stan Grazotis (50 not out) benefited from the afternoon sun, with the humid conditions helping flatten out the pitch that encountered overnight rain.
“We knew if we dug in we could reap the rewards late,” Marshall captain Kal Dubbeldam said.
“We had a focus that if you got started you needed to go on.
“They bowled fairly well and there were momentum changes in the game, but overall it was a good performance.”
Panther Luke Zanchetta continued his purple patch with the ball, taking 4-28 as his side went to stumps in a good position.
“It’s around par at Marshall, but there’s still a lot of hard work to do,” Dubbeldam said of the total.
“Bell Post Hill is a quality side, so we have to bowl well to defend that.
“There was a bit of water around, so the wicket and outfield was a little bit slower than normal.
“But it got it got a bit of easier after the break.”
Dubbeldam praised Cole, who led the fightback with strokes to all parts of the ground.
“He batted awesome,” Dubbeldam said of Cole. “He anchored the innings and played his natural game. He whacked the ball around and then Mitch and Stan played well at the end.”
