Too steamy, but what’s up next?

CONCERNS over a Geelong lingerie store’s racy Christmas advertising may be short lived — or just getting started — with new posters on the way.

Lingerie chain Honey Birdette’s Christmas ad campaign has come under fire for featuring “hypersexualised” images of halfnaked woman straddling and sitting on Santa Claus.

The ad campaign, which is displayed in the front window of Honey Birdette’s Geelong Westfield store, is set to be replaced in coming days.

Asked if Honey Birdette would alter the campaign, spokeswoman Gemma May said the company updated its marketing on a “minimum weekly-fortnightly basis”. “The posters for the launch of our next Christmas collection are currently being rolled out across all stores,” she said.

The company’s recent campaigns led to a petition calling on Westfield Shopping Centre to ban the “porn-style” advertising. The petition has received more than 53,000 signatures.

“The Honey Birdette posters depicting women in hyper-sexualised poses and various states of undress introduces concepts of pornography and sexuality to a hapless public, including little 4-year-old girls like my daughter,” petition author Kenneth Thor said.

“The innocence of young children is one of the most precious things in life. These images and the company behind them, robs kids of their innocence.”
