Black spot upgrade plan

MUCH- NEEDED upgrades to the notorious Barwon Heads Rd may soon be on their way, with community consultation sessions announced for December.

Bellarine state Labor MP Lisa Neville announced yesterday the Barwon Heads Rd and Bellarine Link projects had entered the next stages of planning.

The State Government has invested $3 million towards planning the upgrade of Barwon Heads Rd between Settlement and Lower Duneed roads.

The Geelong Advertiser recently revealed Barwon Heads Rd was the most dangerous section of road in Geelong, overtaking the Princes Highway for the number of serious injury crashes in September.

The road is in urgent need of an upgrade, with the massive Warralily housing development bringing more traffic to the struggling stretch.

Ms Neville said community input was invaluable in the success of such largescale projects.

“We’re planning for the future of our region with a firstclass road network that caters for growth and development,” Ms Neville said.

The State Government has invested a further $4 million into investigating a potential extension of the Geelong Ring Road (Bellarine Link) from Baanip Blvd to the Bellarine Peninsula.

Two community sessions are planned for the coming weeks. They are:

Saturday, December 2: Moolap Primary School, 30 Wills Crescent Moolap, any time between 9am-1pm.

Wednesday, December 6: South Barwon Reserve (cricket club), 137-217 Barwon Heads Rd, Belmont, any time between 4-7.30pm.
