Hogg out but Reed to return

BRAD Hogg has been ruled out of Geelong’s T20 doubleheader this weekend as he continues his rehabilitation from a knee injury.

Cats coach Andre Borovec confirmed that Hogg, who was pencilled in to play against Prahran and Footscray, would stay home in Western Australia. In better news for Geelong, pace,an Jake Reed returns.

Reed, who has had shoulder and knee surgery, will play in the Cats third XI as a batsman.

The Victorian quick will be back for Geelong’s first twoday clash against Fitzroy Doncaster on December 2 and 9.

“Reed will definitely play, but as a bat only,” Borovec said. “He’ll have a run around, field and tick that box but he won’t bowl.

“But he’ll play with us and bowl in the first red-ball game. Jake’s not fussed where he plays (on Saturday) he just wants to get amongst it. He can’t wait.”

It’s likely Reed will play in the thirds against Prahran.

Hogg, on the other hand, will weigh up whether to play club cricket in Perth this weekend.

“He played on Sunday for Willerton in the first grade, bowled four overs and took a couple of wickets,” Borovec said.

“That’s good form. The challenge will be the recovery, and as we know with a T20 game, it’s intense and coming off an injury like that, recovery is critical.

“Given he played on Sunday, we thought it was best to let it rest to just give him a chance to see where it’s at.”

Hogg is a chance to line up against the Lions on December 2 before pressing his case for the Melbourne Renegades’ Big Bash League season opener on December 9.
