- OLIVIA SHYING

“Mel has a huge fight on her hands.”

A YOUNG mum critically injured in a two-car crash is still fighting for life at a Melbourne hospital.

Melanie Ranken, 25, was critically injured in a horror Mt Duneed crash earlier this month.

The tight-knit Ballan and Meredith communities, determined to support the young mum, have rallied behind Ms Ranken who had been living in Mount Helen

Ms Ranken and her baby daughter Willow, who was not injured, were travelling along Lower Mount Duneed Rd when their vehicle was struck from behind about 2.10pm on Thursday, November 3. The force of the impact speared her red sedan into nearby trees.

Friend Joe Daley has established a community fund-

raising page to support Ms Ranken, her fiance Alex Plucke and Willow during this challenging time.

“Mel has a huge fight on her hands and a long road to recovery,” Mr Daley said.

“We know there are a lot of people doing it tough out there and Alex and Mel wouldn’t want to make it any harder for anyone else, so if a money donation isn’t something you can do please help us by using the power of social media to spread our message.”

The page, established last week, has already raised $14,095 of its $20,000 target. To support the family go to gofundme.com/alex-mel
