Bareena seizes top

Grove slips after nail-biter

- GRAHAM RAWLINS PREMIER LEAGUE

BAREENA has taken leadership of the Premier Division ladder after a 63-shot clean sweep over BMS at Ballarat Memorial Sports Club on Saturday.

This has set up the clash of the season (so far) with Bareena playing second-placed Ocean Grove on Saturday at Noble Street.

The win was established early with each rink bowling strongly and with a sense of purpose that made it evident the visitors were taking the spoils back to Geelong.

The domination of rinks two and three were a feature of the Bareena performance.

Brannon Shelton maintained his form with a 36-9 win, his fifth win of the season and maintaining fourth place on the leading skips ladder while Ben Wilding skippered his rink to a 33-9 win to maintain third place on the leading skips ladder.

Bareena has its four skips in the top 10 with a cumulative total of 20 victories and a 127-shot difference.

Ocean Grove slipped back to second following its disappointing two-shot split rinks loss to Sebastopol, playing on its home green.

In the first half Ocean Grove slipped by allowing too many multiple scores across the board.

The Grove was 25 shots down soon after the halfway mark but fought back well to be one shot down on the 99th end.

The competition’s leading rink, skipped by Craig Hodges, again led the way taking an eight-shot win the Rob Baker rink. This Hodges rink has won all seven of its matches so far and holds a top 74-shot difference.

In the battle of the cellar dwellers, Eastern Park took the points by nine shots over City of Geelong.

It was the solid work of the Eastern Park leading rink skippered by Adam Martin that provided the focus for victory.

With Scott McDonald (lead), Callum Mann (second), Brayden Ward (third) and Martin combining well, they posted a 32-14 win over the Craig Elliott rink. Interestingly Elliott has played seven games and only registered two wins so far, this season.

Webbcona moved two places up the ladder after its 10-shot win over Queenscliff while Victoria held its fourth place with a 14-shot win over Lara.
