GEELONG Performing Arts Centre has unveiled next year’s theatre season, featuring a swag of contemporary Australian works alongside two classics.

Award-winning comedian Denise Scott helped launched the 2018 Deakin University Theatre Season last night, revealing a nine-show program.

Theatre lovers will be treated to Sondheim classic A Little Night Music in February, starring Nadine Garner ( The Doctor Blake Mysteries) alongside stage veteran John O’May ( Cabaret, Phantom of the Opera).

The circus comes to town in April. Internationally renowned Brisbane circus troupe Circa will deliver its thrilling new work Peepshow. The sensual delight will be presented up close and personal in the intimate Drama Theatre.

The assortment of new Australian drama includes awardwinning production The Bleeding Tree by Angus Cerini.

It is presented by Sydney’s Griffin Theatre, who are visiting Geelong for the first time.

The company will return later in the year with The Almighty Sometimes.

Local choir Raise the Bar (the adult choir from Geelong Youth Choir) will feature in The Events, a powerful new play by David Greig starring Catherine McClements.

From Tasmania comes The Season, featuring charismatic Trevor Jamieson in a laughout-loud comedy about family and culture.

The family theme continues with Red Stitch Actors Theatre’s recently commissioned drama Jurassica.

State Theatre Company of South Australia will make a welcome return to Geelong with a sparkling adaptation of literary classic Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen.

Rounding out the season is Prize Fighter, an action packed production from La Boîte Theatre and Brisbane Festival that combines engrossing storytelling with the thrill of live boxing.
