Layla set for Bond adventure
WHILE most Geelong school leavers will be anxiously waiting for their mobile phone to light up tomorrow morning with an ATAR high enough to get them into their preferred course, Layla Murrihy can rest easy.
The Geelong College graduate secured a place at the Gold Coast’s Bond University in September and was informed just weeks later that she would be the recipient of a scholarship.
Ms Murrihy decided to apply for Bond University when she was struggling to find a course at a Victorian university that really appealed to her. After doing some research, Ms Murrihy applied for a place in a double degree studying Law and Media Communications.
Ms Murrihy still was not 100 per cent sure whether she would make the move to Queensland but then she received the scholarship offer.
“That set my decision. It was a hard choice to move but I am really close to my family and have a lot of support,” Ms Murrihy said.
The eager learner will fasttrack her double degree, which she anticipates she will complete within three years and eight months rather than the average five years.
“I am just looking forward to a new challenge and a completely different environment,” she said.
Other school leavers, vers, including 22 from the Geelong region, have ve received conditional l offers to study at La Trobe University through its Aspire program.
Deakin University scholarships are e not offered until after ter the release of results. s.
