OUR TOP RUNNING ROUTES

-

GEELONG WATERFRONT

A great place to go for a run. The waterfront offers so many different options depending on your fitness levels. You can run all the way from Eastern Beach to North Geelong without going on any roads and the majority of the route is flat. You can finish your run with some hill sprints at the Eastern Beach end too.

BELLARINE RAIL TRAIL

This track takes you all the way from South Geelong to Queenscliff, which is about 36km. Obviously you can run as much or as little of it as you like, but for those training for a marathon it’s an ideal location to do your long runs. There’s an incline as you run through Leopold to Drysdale and then a nice bit of downhill from Drysdale to Queenscliff.

BARWON RIVER LOOP

A great place to run because it is flat and there are so many distances you can cover. Use the different bridges as your distance markers. If you leave from Breakwater you can run to the Moorabool St, Shannon Ave or Queens Park bridges and back. If you’re up for a longer run then you can head all the way to Fyansford and back. It’s a track I’ve run plenty of times. It was where I ran a world record 55 marathons in 55 days!

OCEAN GROVE BEACH

Hitting the sand is a great way to add some variation to your running training. You can make it as hard or as easy as you like. The harder sand is easier, but the soft sand will really fatigue your legs! Plus is there anything better than the smell of the ocean while you are running? Hit the water after the run for recovery too!

SURF COAST TRAIL

Lots of options on this gem of a run! You can leave from Torquay and run all the way to Anglesea. But for a shorter run you can’t beat going from Torquay to Bells Beach. The run along the clifftops is scenic and there are lots of different spots you can stop to have a look at the stunning view. Plus the cafes in Torquay are great for a coffee and a post-run relaxation session.

YOU YANGS

Sometimes forgotten about as a place to go for a run, the You Yangs is the perfect place to do a bit of trail running. While it’s not too hard, there are some nice hills and undulations that will get the heart rate up. If you run from the bottom to the top then you are rewarded with a sensational view of Geelong and its surrounds.
