Busy Jen adds gig in Anglesea

- SHANE FOWLES

DOUBLE J artist of the year Jen Cloher will perform on the Surf Coast as part of a sixdate national tour in March.

The Anglesea Memorial Hall’s reputation as a premier live music venue will grow after it secured the services of Cloher for a performance on Friday, March 23.

Cloher is riding high on the back of her latest album, which has won rave reviews and catapulted her to new audiences internationally.

She served as the opening act for her wife Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile’s coheadlining North American tour, before returning home for the Meredith Music Festival last weekend.

The March shows are likely to be Cloher’s only run of Australian headline shows with a band in 2018, as demand will see them tour heavily overseas.

Cloher and band head to the United States in January, before a run of gigs in Europe in February.

Cloher is among a rising number of high-profile artists who are making the trip to Anglesea, on the back of the Sound Doctor Presents crew.

The committed locals delivered a big 2017, opening with Irish songstress Lisa Hannigan in May before shows from Clare Bowditch and Yirrmal (September) and Leah Senior (November).

After awarding Cloher the artist of the year award, Double J also declared Cloher’s self-titled fourth LP the No. 1 album of 2017.

The Herald Sun was among several outlets to give the album five stars, declaring it “her magnum opus”.
