NO.1 FAN? IT’S KYLIE LIKELY

- – OLIVIA SHYING

SHIRLEY Fry has a simple Christmas wish — to meet Kylie Minogue.

The Hamlyn Heights resident, pictured, was first struck by Kylie fever when she saw the pint-sized star on Neighbours. “I watched her every afternoon and would always race home to make sure I didn’t miss an episode. I taped all the bits with her in it and still have them on VHS,” Miss Fry said.

Her devotion continued through Kylie’s illustrious pop career that spawned hit songs such as Spinning Around and Come Into My World.

Miss Fry has tried desperately to secure tickets to Kylie’s shows. She has been in the audience for one show, but stood outside near the memorabilia stand at another that had sold out.

Most nights the former dance teacher turns on her surround system and pumps out her favourite Kylie songs Locomotion and Hand on my Heart.

“I dance to them and have a ball,” Miss Fry said. “I’m not as fit as I used to be but the hips move, my head moves and my arms can move.”

When Kylie’s costume exhibition launched in Melbourne Miss Fry went five times. When it opened at Geelong Art Gallery last week Miss Fry was first in line, hoping Kylie herself would make an appearance. She didn’t, but that didn’t stop Miss Fry popping back for a second visit.

She still remains hopeful she will one day be so lucky to meet her idol.

“Meeting Kylie has been a lifelong dream,” Miss Fry said. “She’s wonderful because she’s Kylie, she cares about her fans and I reckon I’m her No.1 fan.”
