CAR-SURFING ROXY IS ONE MAD CAT

MEOW-ABUNGA, DUDE!

- BRIAN RAFFERTY

A CAR-SURFING cat has been turning heads in Ocean Grove.

Roxy the cat, who’s no spring chicken at the ripe old age of 23, has been drawing amazed and worried looks while sitting atop cars as they cruise the town’s residential streets.

A message on a community Facebook page at the weekend read: “To the lady in the white Honda CRV driving down Shell Road about 5 minutes ago, your fury grey cat is still on the roof.”

The post struck fear into local cat owners but Donna Stewart instantly recognised the crazy cat in question as her own.

“Two months ago she jumped into the toolbox on my son’s car and took a ride down to Leopold at 100kp/h,” Ms Stewart said.

“It gave him quite the scare and he had to pull onto the embankment to grab her and put her in the car.

“Of course Roxy didn’t mind, she just sat up on the dash and watched the world fly by without a care in the world.”

Ms Stewart said the family and neighbours were cautious to check Roxy’s whereabouts before driving off.

“She sometimes likes to sit on the bonnet and sunbake but usually jumps off the car when we start the engine. We’ll just have to keep an eye out for her,” she said.

Roxy is already well known to many local schoolchildren and crossing supervisors.

“At 3.30pm right on the dot, she’ll be out the front waiting for the kids to return from school,” Ms Stewart said.

“All the neighbourhood kids know her and they always stop and say hi.”

Despite her age, Ms Stewart said Roxy was still young at heart.

“She’s very playful for her age, almost like a kitten. She’ll run around the house and slide along the floor with not a thought for slowing down,” she said.
