Suburb hits record with $1.4m home sale

- TAMARA McDONALD

A GEELONG West residential sale record has been broken, with a home on Candover St selling for “just shy of $1.4 million”, according to a local real estate director.

McGrath Estate Agents director David Cortous said the “beautiful, big Victorian” fourbedroom, two-bathroom home at 26 Candover St was bought ught by a Melbourne family relocatcating to Geelong.

“That is a suburb record rd for a residential sale in Gee- long West,” Mr Cortous said.

On Saturday, a home at 13 Orr St in popular Manifold Heights sold for $756,000 to a young couple e with children.

The three-bedroom home, me, set on a large block of about bout 697sq m, had price expectactations of between $650,000 and $700,000.

“With the market being the way it is, especially through Manifold Heights, it was very fiercely contested,” Mr Cortous said of the auction, wihch attracted six bidders and a crowd of about 100 people.

Mr Cortous said the family had just sold another property in Manifold Heights and was planning to renovate 13 Orr St.

The convenient location contribued to the leafy suburb’s appeal, Mr Cortous said.

“We’ve had the highest capital growth in Geelong (this year) ... I think the real estate market for next year will certainly still be strong, at least up until midyear,” he said. “I think there’s too much depth in our market right now... for the market to taper. I think we’re going to see a very strong 1 Rendition of an exhibition 2 An international body is

Mr Cortous also sold two blocks of vacant land in Hamlyn Heights on Saturday, one for $510,000 and the other for $480,000.
