RIGHT AT HOME IN ROADKNIGHT RACE

- DAMIEN RACTLIFFE

GEELONG Cats chief executive Brian Cook made use of a homeground advantage in yesterday’s 2.5km Rock2Ramp swim.

Having pencilled the event into his calendar last month, Cook and a close friend took their time as they finished the swim in just over 50 minutes, enjoying beautiful conditions at Point Roadknight.

But there would be no 1.2km swim on Cook’s radar as he enjoyed the rest of the afternoon in a makeshift marquee on the beach.

“The 2.5km was big enough for me,” Cook quipped. “I enjoy it. I swim most mornings when I can and over Chrissy, this is the home turf.

“We go from the Anglesea Surf Lifesaving Club to here (Point Roadknight) and back.

“That’s about a 3km swim most mornings, so it’s home territory, a home ground advantage for me.”

Cook said he was keen to give back to the lifesaving club, an event he’s competed in for roughly a decade.

“It’s a really good day, there’s lots of people giving a lot of money to Anglesea Surf Lifesaving Club, so it’s a great cause,” he said.

“They have got their building strategy, the next stage of their redevelopment, which I can relate to, and they’re after donations — so this will help.”

And Cook still has a few more swims on his radar for the new year.

“We’ve got the Pier to Pub, the 5km down there coming up, and the one at Torquay (Danger 1000),” he said.

“We try to do most of them. We’ll have a few beers now and try to enjoy the rest of the day.”
