TAC claims under fire after ad

- HARRISON TIPPET

THE TAC’s claims it received no complaints about an advertisement featuring what appears to be a car travelling on the wrong side of the road have been called into question.

Former road safety worker Christopher White revealed he complained to the TAC regarding its contentious newspaper ad — which was slammed by Liberal MPs for appearing shortly after a tourist was left in a critical condition after reportedly driving on the wrong side of Cape Otway Rd and colliding head-on with a truck.

The TAC on Sunday claimed it had not received any complaints about the ad. But Mr White shared text messages between himself and the TAC, voicing his concerns over the ad.

“We actually complained the day after it appeared, so there seems to be a little bit of a communication breakdown within the TAC,” Mr White said.

“I think that rather than saying ‘Yes, we have made a bit of a blue, it’s not the clearest photo, we should withdraw it,’ they’re trying to duck and weave and sort of say it’s not an issue.”

South Barwon state Liberal MP Andrew Katos, who slammed the TAC for the “careless” ad this week, criticised the organisation’s claim it had not received any complaints.

“It’s very much spin of the TAC to say no one’s contacted them,” Mr Katos said. The TAC yesterday declined to respond to Mr Katos’ comments.
