LOUD LOUT GETS OUT

Radio blaster set free but warned to keep it down

GEELONG’S noisiest neighbour has been released from jail — three weeks into a fourmonth prison term.

But a magistrate warned Corio’s Alex Boros he would be thrown back in the slammer if he continued to play loud music at his home.

The 42-year-old was granted bail in Geelong Magistrates’ Court yesterday as he prepares to launch a County Court appeal against his sentence.

He was jailed on December 12 after being found guilty of resisting police and three bail breaches after he refused to follow police directions to turn down his high-powered stereo.

Boros, dressed in green prison overalls, appeared in court via video link and was nervously pacing around the room before the matter was called.

Despite magistrate Michael Coghlan releasing him, the Sharland Rd resident repeatedly argued about a bail condition ordering him not to play music that can be heard by his neighbours or anyone on his street.

“What if people don’t really mind listening to music? What if it’s only certain people (who have an issue)?” Boros said.

But Mr Coghlan advised the pensioner to invest in headphones if he wanted to continue playing loud music without breaching bail.

“If you want to put some headphones in and play music until your ears explode, you can,” he said.

“But if you don’t comply with that condition, there’s no doubt I’ll be seeing you again soon.”

Boros then responded: “What about on weekends?”

That response drew a sigh from Mr Coghlan, who said: “Stop being so stubborn and obstinate.”

The prosecutor, Senior- Constable Kerrie Moroney, had opposed bail on the grounds Boros could reoffend and was an unacceptable risk to the public.

The court heard police were called to Boros’ home over noise complaints about 50 times last year.

In an earlier hearing, Boros said there’d been a lot happening in his life, and he had not had time to “get my s--t sorted”, or seek treatment for constant ringing in his ears.
