Thunderbirds are go at local car and bike show

- RUSTY WOODGER

CHAMPION racing driver Jim Richards will be the star attraction in Drysdale this weekend.

The seven-time Bathurst winner is a special guest at the annual Autopro Classic Car and Bike Show and will appear alongside his Porsche GT4.

Organiser Michael Brislane expects more than 600 vehicles to descend on Drysdale for the event on Sunday, with cars and bikes of all shapes and sizes on display.

“We don’t just have one particular type of car, we’ve got vehicles ranging from Morris Minors to Buicks and vintage machinery,” Mr Brislane said.

“There’s really something for every member of the family to see and, maybe, they will re- member something from their childhood.”

The show is entering its seventh year and will raise money for the Drysdale cricket and netball clubs. It is on at Drysdale Recreation Reserve between 10am and 2pm.

Aside from meeting Richards, other drawcards include a jumping castle and live music. Entry is free.

The fun will start one day early for many of the punters, with about 400 vehicles expected to join a Saturday evening group cruise around the Bellarine Peninsula.

“With the cruise on the Saturday night, we want to bring a lot of people out onto the street to watch the cars pass by,” Mr Brislane said. “So it’s not just about raising money, it’s also about putting on a true community event for Drysdale.”
