HOGG STAYS GROUNDED AFTER BIG WIN

- ALEX OATES

BRAD Hogg is adamant the Melbourne Renegades won’t get carried away with their rollicking start to the Big Bash League as they prepare for tomorrow night’s showdown with the Melbourne Stars.

Moving to 3-1 with a resounding win over the Sydney Sixers at GMHBA Stadium, Hogg was confident his team would be able to maintain its focus in a challenging period that includes two matches against the Stars and a trip to Perth.

“You can concentrate on the ladder and what the other teams are doing, but you need to concentrate on what you do and get the processes right,” Hogg said after the win over the Sixers.

“If you get too far ahead of yourself, it can all fall apart quickly. At the end of the day, we’ve had a very good start to the tournament, but we need to make sure that we don’t get too cocky and make sure we can go out and prepare like we would for the start of the season.

“I think that’s what the good teams do. They’re confident but they know what works for them and they don’t get too fancy to the point where it can all fall away.”

Staring down the barrel of a fourth-straight loss, the Melbourne Stars could be out of the tournament by 10.30pm tomorrow night with a loss to the Gades.

And while he is focused on the Stars, Hogg admitted he is determined to make amends against his former side Perth in Game 22 after a narrow loss at Etihad Stadium last week.

“With the Scorchers, that was one we let slip,” Hogg said.

“We were in the game, and if we’re going to come out and win the tournament, we have to be the team that sets the high bar and that’s what the Scorchers have done.

“In that particular game, we had the opportunity to take the game out and we were just a little short.

“We’ve looked at that and we think we’ve got the armoury when we come up against the better teams.”
