More Dakar Rally carnage

British motorcyclist Sam Sunderland abandoned his Dakar Rally title defence on Tuesday due to back pain, and Portuguese soccer coach Andre Villas-Boas was taken to a hospital after his car crashed against a sand dune. Rally organisers said Sunderland, the overall leader on a KTM, withdrew near the end of the 330kilometre special around San Juan de Marcona when he was hurt after a jump.

Australian rider and 2016 champion Toby Price finished 15th in the stage and is sixth overall, more than 10 minutes behind Adrian van Beveren in the general classification.
