Teen skis to icy trifecta

-

TEEN Melbourne adventurer Jade Hameister has become the youngest person to ski unaided across Antarctica’s icy wasteland to the South Pole.

The 16-year-old from Hampton arrived at the Amundsen-Scott US research station to complete her 37day, 600km expedition yesterday morning.

“Here’s to a hot shower and some real food,” she posted on Instagram while holding an Australian flag.

As part of the historic trek that mapped a new route, her Australian team of five faced extreme winds and temperatures verging on minus 50C.

The feat caps off Hameister’s bid to conquer the “polar hat-trick” as the youngest person to traverse the North Pole, Greenland and South Pole on skis.

After conquering the North Pole at 14 in April 2016, she skied across the Greenland ice cap in mid-2017, before completing the combined 1300km trifecta in less than two years.
