Joeys celebrate maiden victory

- WES CUSWORTH

ST JOSEPH’S has broken through for its maiden win of the season with its victory over Murgheboluc.

Luke Ibbs (34) and Justin Foss (38) laid the foundation to the Joeys’ innings, but it was Leigh Kentish who battled the frustration of stoppages for rain to craft a highquality, unbeaten 55 as the Joeys registered 2-148 from 40 overs.

“Having our first win so far in is not ideal, but for where we’re at I thought it was a good effort,” Joeys captain Luke Ibbs said.

“I thought we fought really hard to get that 148, given the conditions, and being on and off with the rain.”

The visitors to King Lloyd Reserve backed their gritty batting effort with a polished performance in the field, executing an extraordinary five run outs to dismiss the Frogs for just 100.

Foss featured in three run outs, along with taking 1-18 and a catch.

“Alex Bowles (2-13) and Paddy De Grandi bowled really good line and length on that wicket, and had us in a really good position having them 3-30 from 15 overs,” Ibbs said.

“They were always under pressure and we executed our throwing really well.

“A number of the run outs were out by a long way, which was quite impressive.”

Milestone man, 100-game player Jason Grozdanovski, was Murgheboluc’s prime contributor with 36.
