MEGA-FAN JIMMY TO MISS MACKLEMORE SHOW

- RUSTY WOODGER

A SIMPLE error could cost a Curlewis boy’s dream of seeing his music idol.

Jimmy Lowe, 9, has been hanging out for Macklemore’s concert at Festival Hall since his mum surprised him with tickets on his birthday last month.

But with only three weeks until the US hip-hop artist takes to the stage, the plans have been thrown into disarray.

Mum Julie opened the tickets on Friday to learn they were mistakenly bought for a licensed area restricted to adults, meaning her young son would not be allowed inside.

In a further blow, Ms Lowe soon realised resale tickets in other sections were now more than $300 each and well outside her price range.

Although missing out on a concert might be water under a bridge for some, Ms Lowe said it was particularly devastating for her family.

She had bought the tickets in November in an effort to cheer Jimmy up during a difficult period in his life, following the divorce of his parents and associated health issues.

Ms Lowe said her son was “crushed” after learning he might not be going to the show.

“So was I. I was devastated all weekend. I couldn’t stop crying,” she said.

“Macklemore is the one thing that’s got Jimmy through this (tough period).

The disappointment soon turned to action as Ms Lowe started writing a series of emails to appeal for help.

Among the recipients was Macklemore himself, with the single mum asking the Grammy Award-winning artist to consider future venues that have more capacity for minors.

Although she admits it was her mistake, Ms Lowe places some blame with Ticketmaster, arguing the company’s website was unclear about sections being restricted to adults. “It was only in small print on the website. I didn’t even see until they pointed it out on the phone on Saturday morning,” Ms Lowe said.

Ticketmaster has been contacted for comment.

In the meantime, the pair is holding out hope that they will still get their hands on tickets for the February 6 performance.
