Grove to turn tables

- ROBIN ROBERTS MIDWEEK BOWLS

TODAY’S top- of- the- table clash between Queenscliff and Ocean Grove looms as a show of strength between two of the competition heavyweights.

Ocean Grove has slipped out of the four after a couple of disappointing losses.

The inclusion of Michael Allen as third to Faye Richardson gives Grove a stronger look.

Queenscliff, on the other hand, has had most things go right so far this season.

Denise Clark is unavailable but Richie McGovern will return to the Barrie Close rink. Close will be hoping the consistency of his team continues.

Leads McGovern, Di Price and Pauline Thompson have been key performers for Queenscliff, giving their respective rinks great starts.

Although Queenscliff’s sound form gives them every right to enter this match with a degree confidence, coach Barrie Close will be very much aware of Ocean Grove’s capabilities.

Robin’s say: I have a sneaky feeling the Ocean Grove big guns can arrest their form slump and grab the points.

The other important game will see Torquay and Highton play for big stakes; the winner will probably be a certain finalist. The loser joins the pack looking for that elusive finals spot. Torquay just.

City will beat Portarlington. Leopold, at home, too strong for Ocean Grove 2. Cement and Lara a toss of a coin.

Division 2 Bannockburn at home will really test St Leonards. Geelong to beat Highton 2. Belmont at home to RSL. Clifton Springs will host Bell Post Hill. Torquay to get up against Pt Lonsdale.
