- ANDREA HAMBLIN

A COWARDLY driver who knocked down a Lara nurse in a hit-run outside a Melbourne hospital has been caught on camera, in a major breakthrough police hope will lead them to the suspect.

It comes as Shanne Doctor- Naron is transferred to a local hospital to be closer to home and her worried family as she recovers from devastating injuries that have left her struggling to walk.

The 29-year-old nurse said she was just thankful to be alive and thanked the community for its support.

“I may not be 100 per cent OK but ... continuing love, support and prayers from my family, friends and even lovely strangers makes my recovery a bit plain sailing with just a few expected rough waves along the way,” Ms Doctor-Naron wrote in a statement.

Husband Justin Naron said it was time the offender who left his wife bleeding outside Sunshine Hospital turned themselves in to police to explain the careless actions.

“The public should be careful because there is a dangerous driver out there that could hurt or kill somebody,” he said.

In a promising lead for investigators, police tracked down CCTV footage of the dark grey Ford XR ute that struck Ms Doctor-Naron as she left work on January 9.

A coronary care nurse who commutes to Melbourne’s west for work, Ms DoctorNaron was crossing a pedestrian light about 9.50pm when she was thrown into the air by the impact of the crash.

Investigators yesterday released CCTV footage of the of- fending car, which was last seen on Furlong Rd moments after striking the nurse.

They’ve urged anyone with dash-cam footage to come forward as the hunt continues for the ute, which they believe would have damage to its front side. Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
