BURGLARY RESIDENTIA­L No holiday from crime in the city

Norlane/Corio had the most incidents this past week. Other multiple incidents took place in Belmont, Lara and Hamlyn Heights.

Although most occurred on residentia­l premises, nine involved garages or sheds. Three incidents – in Lara, Armstrong Creek and Clifton Springs – were linked to the theft of cars.

Building materials and tools, power tools, alcohol, mail, cash, jewellery, clothing and electrical items including TVs were stolen.

BURGLARY OTHER

Burglaries occurred at Breakwater (industrial site); Geelong (secondhand dealer and a medical centre); Geelong North (department store); Moolap (Factory); and Newcomb (health outlet).

Three incidents were reported on the Surf Coast at Lorne (storage — Parks Victoria), Colac (retail) and Winchelsea (restaurant).

The Breakwater burglary also involved the theft of a motor vehicle and more than $200,000 worth of power tools.

THEFT OF MOTOR VEHICLE

Corio/Norlane continues to be the area where most vehicles are stolen. Other multiple incidents occurred this past week in Newtown, Leopold and Geelong North.

Vehicles were stolen from residentia­l streets and driveways/carports as well as a car yard (two), carpark (two) and service station.

Nine vehicles were recovered, with three in the Corio/Norlane area. Others were found in Freshwater Creek, Whittingto­n, Breakwater, Waurn Ponds, Geelong and Bell Park.

THEFT FROM MOTOR VEHICLE

Multiple incidents were reported in Leopold, Belmont/Highton, Norlane and Newcomb.

Thieves continue to target cash, with handbags, wallets and purses containing cash and credit cards (with cards being used at retail outlets), smaller computer items, mobile phones and power tools taken.

Most incidents occur at night in residentia­l streets or driveways/carports.

Single incidents were reported at a train station ( Geelong North), beach carpark ( Torquay), car yard ( Geelong North) and school grounds ( Belmont).

PROPERTY DAMAGE

Corio, Lara and Geelong were the suburbs mostly targeted for damage (vehicles and windows), with other multiple incidents reported in a variety of Geelong suburbs.

While residentia­l premises (windows, vehicles, doors, fences) were the main targets, vandals also damaged public transport (graffiti, vehicle), licensed premises, retail outlets and sports areas.
