GEELONG premiership player Nathan Ablett will pull the boots on for Modewarre this year after agreeing to terms with his former junior club.

The 32-year-old trained with the BFL finalists before Christmas and is expected to assume a key post in the Warriors’ forward line this year.

Modewarre president Mick Fitzgerald last night said his players would flourish with Ablett lining up alongside them.

“We are really looking forward to having Nathan back involved at our club,” Fitzgerald told the Geelong Advertiser.

“Nath is very close mates with the Forbes boys and obviously played footy with ‘Finchy’ (Josh Finch), ‘Meeso’ (John Meesen) and Leigh Anderson and they are all very excited about playing together again.

“Our young, developing list will benefit enormously from training and playing with someone of his experience and ability.

“Nathan is a fantastic person and we are just cannot wait to have him back in maroon and blue.”

Ablett last played with the Warriors in 2004, before being drafted to the Cats as a fatherson recruit later that year.

He played 34 games at the elite level — 32 of them across three seasons at Geelong, including the 2007 premiership, before playing two games in 2011 at the Gold Coast.

In 2012, Ablett played for Werribee in the VFL, where he kicked 10 goals in six games.
