THE threats to world moguls champion Britt Cox are coming from near and far as she prepares for next month’s Olympic Games, with her young teammate, Geelong’s Jakara Anthony, squeezing her out of the World Cup final at Deer Valley in the US yesterday.

World Cup leader Cox, coming off a laststart win in Calgary last weekend, was not at her dynamic best on what is one of her favourite courses and finished seventh (77.32 points) in the round of 16, missing the six-woman final by one place as 19-yearold Anthony (78.04) reached her first World Cup final.

Anthony continued to ski solidly in her first final at this level, soaring to fifth place (76.19) as French teenager Perrine Laffont returned to form to win convincingly with a score of 81.88 points. Laffont was Cox’s closest rival last season but had made a slow start to the season until now.

Anthony, from Barwon Heads, was thrilled to make such a breakthrough.
