Friends from the cradle ready to brave college

- OLIVIA SHYING

A BOND formed 12 years ago over nappies and newborns has continued over lunch boxes, schoolbags and uniforms.

Sophie Adams, Jessica Considine, Coby Jackson and Katie Lindsay, all 12, first met when they were just a few weeks old at mothers’ club.

Now the firm friends will enter the next phase of their lives, with the support of each other, as they start high school.

The four friends attended different primary schools but had a mothers’ club graduation — complete with a cake and photos.

Next week they will start their high school lives at different schools but have vowed to remain mates.

Their mums Mylea Adams, Stacey Considine, Narelle Jackson and Kathleen Lindsay bonded in 2005 when they were each cradling firstborn babies.

“We just need the friendship to learn from each other and to laugh,” Mylea said.

The mums all had their second babies at the same time and have celebrated every milestone together.

In the early days they met every week, but now try to catch up monthly. “We still do birthdays, Easter and Kris Kringle,” Mylea said.

The mums can’t quite believe their once-tiny newborns are now high school ready, but say they are glad all members of the mothers’ group have retained their “special bond”.

Sophie is looking forward to making new friends at Sacred Heart College, while Jessica hopes to perfect the French language at Kardinia International College. Coby hopes to improve his football, basketball and cricket at Bellarine Secondary College, while Katie is looking forward to playing cricket at Geelong High School.

“I really enjoy hanging out with my mothers’ group friends so we can hang out and see how each other is going,” Coby said.
