WHILE a Swiss university is offering the chance to study for a yodelling degree, Geelong students can join a blow-dry bootcamp, take flower crown classes and learn to apply festival make-up.

The region’s most popular degrees include nursing, optometry and exercise and sport science at Deakin University, but those wishing to dabble in something more offbeat have plenty of options.

Budding gardeners can try their green thumbs at a terrarium-making workshop or racegoers can ensure they are Spring Racing Carnival ready by completing a flower crown course at The Gordon.

A new festival make-up course, aimed at teens and young women, aims to show girls how they can use makeup and glitter to look festive for music concerts.

The course, operating for the first time this year, is capitalisi­ng on the growing trend of music fans posting pictures of their make-up on social media.

Make-up artist and class teacher Kathryn Deller said the course tapped into popular music festival trends.

“The trends have definitely always been there, but now with social media people are taking photos of their makeup at festivals (so) it’s more obvious,” Ms Deller said.

“What’s really popular is obviously lots of head jewels, big lashes and glitter.”

Ms Deller said creating Instagram-worthy make-up was surprising­ly easy and those wanting to get the look did not have to spend a lot of money on make-up.

Blow-dry Bootcamp teacher Kath McKenzie said the intensive hair course aimed to teach anyone with “a bit of skill” how to do a perfect blow-dry.

The half-day workshop helps participan­ts learn to master the trickiest aspect of the trade.
