Ideas man sets up camp
ENTREPRENEURIAL spirit runs in the family for 20-year-old Jesse Blundy-Jones.
It’s the reason the Geelong College graduate was bold enough to bring his pop-up accommodation dreams to life at a young age.
“My uncle started a bunch of different retail chains and my mum has always worked closely with him. They used to own Sanity music stores and recently sold Bras N Things,” he said.
Now Mr Blundy-Jones is starting a venture of his own.
The Point Lonsdale resident is the brains behind new glamping start-up Swell Shelters.
Round canvas tents, 4m or 5m in size, are set up complete with beds, furniture and homelike styling in a destination of campers’ choice anywhere in Victoria, all ready for their arrival.
“Glamping started in the UK, and then I saw a few places doing it in Byron (Bay) and had the idea to do it down here about two years ago,” he said.
“Ever since I was little I loved going camping. I realised a lot of people don’t go camping because they don’t have the equipment ... but if they had it all set up for them, they might be more inclined to go out and enjoy themselves.”
Mr Blundy-Jones is excited about throwing himself into the business world.
“As long as I can remember I would try to think of ways to start my own business ... I couldn’t wait to leave school,” he said. “I went to uni for a bit and studied business ... but I learn through doing rather than reading.”
